Deteriorated mortar is removed and replaced with material matched to the original color and composition, restoring structural integrity and weatherproofing without disturbing the brick.
Cracks in the crown allow moisture that damages bricks and mortar through freeze-thaw cycles. Minor cracking is sealed; significant deterioration requires a full crown rebuild.
Firebox Repair
Deteriorated mortar joints or cracked fire bricks are repaired using high-temperature refractory mortar and fire-safe bricks designed to handle direct flame and extreme thermal stress.
A smooth, heat-resistant coating corrects surface irregularities in the smoke chamber and improves draft performance.
Spalling Brick Replacement
Affected bricks are removed and replaced with matching units. Efflorescence (white chalky staining) often signals water migration before spalling becomes visible.

Why Chimney Masonry Repair Isn’t General Masonry Work

A chimney looks like brickwork. It isn’t just brickwork. Mortar selection, joint depth, thermal performance, and combustion clearances are governed by NFPA 211, the national standard for chimneys, fireplaces, vents, and solid fuel-burning appliances. A general mason may be skilled at patching; they aren’t typically trained to assess whether a repair meets that standard.

Applying new mortar over failing old mortar creates a weak bond that fails prematurely. Most chimney masonry work also happens at roof level, requiring safety equipment and training that general contractors aren’t set up for.
